I’ve recently started to read again, and have read quite a few books in the last 6 months. This post will be a recollection of the most important lessons from my favourite books.
Deep Work: This book is about developing focus and achieving outlier success. Great Book, I thought it would another generic self help book - but had great actionable insights on productivity and success.
Rework: This book changes the way you think about work, for both employees and entrepreneurs. One of the best books I have read. I already follow most of the advice in this book, but it was nice to see someone validate the contrarian ideas I follow in business and life. Quite a mindset shift, must read if you work in a corporate setting.
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: This book is a distillation of Naval’s insights and knowledge. Amazing, amazing read. Lots of non obvious insights about wealth and life. Helped me change my view about quite a few things. The section on happiness is really well done, one of the best modern day philosophies.
The Intelligent Investor: A classic book on investing written by Warren Buffet’s mentor. It’s a tough read, quite technical - but nothing too much for a curious reader. You have to be willing to google some financial terms, but this book has helped me pick my stocks better. Another great read. I will soon do a post on investing, stay tuned.
The Courage to be Disliked: This book is an introduction to Alfred Adler’s psychology in the form of a dialogue between a youth and a philosopher. Lots of ideas about happiness and self acceptance. One of the more logical self help books out there. Really liked the ideas of “separation of tasks” and “community feeling”. If you are confused in life or lack a personal philosophy to live with, this book is a step in the right direction.
I read a few more books in 2023, but these are the ones with ideas that had the strongest impact on my thought process. I am currently reading Zero to Sold, and will soon start Elon Musk’s new biography and Thinking Fast and Slow.
That was it for today, will keep you posted about new things I do, or any new ideas or insights I discover. Good luck!
