It’s not easy to find out what your calling is in life, and given the vast number of careers you could pursue, it becomes hard to know what you really want to do.
I have a framework that is useful in such situations, you can use this framework to figure out what do you want to do in life.
There are three main requirements that your career choice must meet.
First, it should be something you have an inclination for. You don’t have to be a fanatic about it, but having some aptitude in your work never hurts.
You want to do something that you have an edge in, something you have a clear competitive advantage in. If you are good at numbers, finance and software are good careers for you. If you are creative, design can be a great career choice. If you are a natural leader, entrepreneurship and management can suit your tastes.
Second, your career choice should have a clear path to monetisation. No point in doing something that doesn’t even make you enough money to sustain your life. Can you see a growing and sizeable job market (or business opportunity) in a field? That can be a viable choice.
Third, you should have some interest in your work. It doesn’t necessarily have to be something you absolutely love (work is work no matter how much you like it), but you should like what you do.
Remember, you will pursue your career for 30-40 years, and you really don’t want to do something that you have zero interest in.
This venn diagram should clear it up for you:
Of course, this doesn’t have to be a perfect mathematical calculation. You will have to listen to your heart’s call at times, and there will be tradeoffs.
Use this as a rough guideline to look at your current opportunities and see what fits. Even within your career, there are sub fields to be chosen (what business do you want to do? What kind of an engineer do you want to be? Do you pursue corporate finance, private equity or venture capital?)

Highly disagree with the monetization part. Earning money isn't everything in life. If you are joining IIT atleast have a vision to improve India and not become something like Tata etc
who take funding from American/British universities for anti India activities. I just gave my JEE mains yesterday and I aspire to be an Astrophysicist and don't care about the money and all because I want to make important discoveries to push forward my country. I have been a space nerd since childhood and love astronomy. Why should monetization be my priority?
