There’s been quite a discussion about “luck” on the internet. Many people like to think that luck doesn’t exist, or that you can overcome it using “hard work”.
I call BS. Greater man than me have stated how important luck is for success.
In many scenarios the line between success and failure is rather thin (you see this often in sports), and that line is usually called luck.
Right from your family circumstances/background, the city or country you were born in, to which school or college you go to - everything matters and most of it is not in your control.
This yields two major lessons for today:
First, stop being so hard on yourself. There are forces that are simply not under your control. If you didn’t win in an endeavour, it could possibly be so that it was simply not under your control.
Second, try to get into situations where things can work in your favour. Stop relying on chances. Plan for the worst case, and you might actually get lucky.
Most success in career, business, or exams can be planned to an extent. I am not denying the importance of working hard or being talented.
But the final 1% - whether you get that mega deal or not, whether you top the exam or stay at #2, whether you get promoted or your friend does - is largely out of your control.
And you are better off not sweating things out of your control.
